Confederate Flag and Racism are a Democrat Problem

The Confederate Battle flag has only recently become an issue because Democrats see it as a way to gain some political advantage over Republicans. It’s because Nikki Haley the governor of South Carolina is a Republican. Somehow the flag is her problem and the GOP’s problem.

The Democrats ruled the south for more than a century after the Civil War, and Democrats did not object to the Confederate Battle flag and monuments. Georgia’s flag was changed in 2003 during the term of a Republican governor.

At the same time, there are numerous confederate markers, symbols, and parks. There’s Stone Mountain, Kennesaw Battlefield Park, and the Cyclorama, to name just three. Will these have to go?

The carving on Stone Mountain depicts three figures of the Confederate States of America: Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Jefferson Davis. Will Liberals call for dynamiting the massive carving like ISIS is doing to images it considers to be anti-Islamic?

Stone Mountain was used as a rock quarry and was also the site of a cross burning and Ku Klux Klan activities. It was purchased by the State of Georgia in 1958.

Granite from Stone Mountain was used for the steps to the U.S. Capitol Building, U.S. Treasury vaults, and Panama Canal locks. Will these stones have to be torn out and thrown into the deepest part of the ocean to satisfy the ISIS-like demands of leftists and ‘progressives’?

As governor of Arkansas, Bill Clinton did not object to the observation of Confederate Flag Day, which is celebrated together with Arkansas Confederate History and Heritage Month and Confederate Memorial Day. Per state code, it is observed on the Saturday immediately preceding Easter Sunday. . . . Clinton did not publicly object to Confederate Flag Day during his time as governor. The holiday is still being observed.”

Democrats in the south also resisted civil rights legislation. Al Gore Sr., Vice-President Al Gore’s father, was one of them. R.D. Davis writes in “Blacks ‘Gored’ By a Lie: Al Gore Sr. the GOP and the Civil Rights Act of 1964”:

“In a… speech to the NAACP [then] Vice President Gore said his father lost his Senate seat because he supported civil rights legislation. Fellow black Americans let me set history straight. Al Gore Sr. together with the rest of the southern Democrats voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

“Congressional Quarterly reported that in the House of Representatives 61% of Democrats (152 for 96 against) voted for the Civil Rights Act as opposed to 80% of Republicans (138 for 38 against). In the Senate 69% of Democrats (46 for 21 against) voted for the Act while 82% of Republicans did (27 for 6 against). All southern Democrats voted against the Act.

“Al Gore Sr. did not stop at simply voting against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In addition Congressional Quarterly reported that Gore attempted to send the Act to the Senate Judiciary Committee with an amendment to say ‘in defiance of a court desegregation order federal funds could not be held from any school districts.’ Gore sought to take the teeth out of the Act in the event it passed.”

Let’s not forget that the Democrat Party had a bona fide member of the Ku Klux Klan as its most senior member in the Senate. Robert Byrd of West Virginia served as a U.S. Representative from 1953 until 1959 and as a U.S. Senator from 1959 to 2010 as a Democrat.

Byrd’s history is just as repugnant as any Confederate history symbol. Maybe more so since he was a living representative of his own racist past.

Removing these Confederate symbols will do as much for blacks as naming streets after Martin Luther King Jr. has done. The Democrats are great at attacking symbols so they don’t have to produce any substance.
