Shut Down the IRS, Garnish Wages, and Implement Fines for Failure to Comply

When You get a letter from the IRS demanding documents to justify exemptions and income, you better comply by the date specified . . . or else.

IRS officials have refused to turn over documents that could shed some light on alleged illegal activity by the agency. Here are at least three questions that need to be answered:

  1. Who authorized the harassment of conservative groups seeking non-profit status (specific names)?
  2. When did the authorization to harass these groups begin (specific dates)?
  3. Was there anybody outside the agency that knew about these irregularities and asked for the harassment to take place (e.g., the White House and/or DNC operatives)?

Congress wants to know:

“In a May 14 letter signed by Chairman Dave Camp and Ranking Member Sander Levin, the House Ways and Means Committee demanded precisely those records from the IRS. In the same letter, the committee also demanded the records of any communications between IRS and the Treasury on the matter, plus other information and records that would help the committee understand the facts about IRS actions that subjected to heightened scrutiny conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status.”

The deadline for the IRS to send the records was Tuesday, May 21.

As of this date (May 23, 2013) the IRS has not complied with the order. The IRS is under the jurisdiction of Congress. There are no “separation of powers” issues involved in the demand for information. There are no national security issues.

Tax payers are required by law to file their taxes on or before the April 15th deadline or secure an extension. Failure to do so can result in penalties and interest. If failure to file continues, wages can be garnished and back accounts seized. There is no escaping the long-arm of IRS law.

Republicans and Democrats want answers:

“The letter that Camp and Levin sent to the IRS a week ago Tuesday asked the agency to answer thirteen questions about its targeting of conservative groups and, where relevant, provide all internal agency documents and communications substantiating its answers.

So far, the IRS has not complied. Try that next time the IRS demands information from you by a certain date.

“On Monday through Tuesday morning [May 20-21], CNSNews.com made multiple phone and email inquiries to the IRS press office asking if the agency intended to comply with this request for information and records from the House Ways and Means Committee. The IRS did not respond.”

So what should Congress do? Take a page from the IRS playbook. Shut down their place of business, stop all payments to the agency, fine them for every day they don’t comply, and garnish the wages of the people involved until they do comply.

One more thing: Abolish the IRS and implement a national sales tax and cut the federal budget by 50 percent.
