President Obama Will Take Us Back to the 1750s and Beyond
Obama is trying to scare up the vote among women by claiming that Mitt Romney will take us back to the 1950s. Not to be outdone, Harry Belafonte said in an interview that the election of Mitt Romney would bring “the end of civilization.” These people are insane.
If President Obama is reelected, he’ll take us back to at least the 1750s. The colonies were at the mercy of Great Britain. King George II was born and raised in Northern Germany. Like President Obama, his loyalties were divided. George II led to George III. While we gained our independence, there is no guarantee that we could do it again. The price would be very high.
While the 1950s were not a perfect time (segregation comes to mind), I bet there are a lot of Americans who are nostalgic for much of the decade. Here’s the year-by-year unemployment rate:
1950 – 5.4
1951 – 3.2
1952 – 3.0
1953 – 2.5
1954 – 5.6
1955 – 4.2
1956 – 4.3
1957 – 4.3
1958 – 7.3
1959 – 5.0
I’ll take these 1950’s unemployment numbers over today’s “official” 8.3 percent rate.
The 1950s was a time when it was safe to let your children watch TV and go to the movies without adult supervision.
Compare Father Knows Best and Leave it to Beaver to The New Normal and Modern Family.
Homosexuals were still in the closet. Killing pre-born babies (abortion) was outlawed. God and prayer were still factors in schools and life in general, even if politicians and courts ignored Him. That hasn’t changed.
It’s not about going back or forward. It’s about do what’s right. Taxing and regulating people are not right – either morally or practically.
Going back in history can serve as a lesson for the future. The Spanish-American philosopher George Santayana (1863–1952) observed that “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” It’s no wonder that liberals are selective of what they want us to remember about the past.
