The Left hates competition. Liberals have a near monopoly over education in America and they want more. They want it all. Any type of dissent must be crushed.

The thing of it is, many high profile liberals do not send their children to the government schools that they bleed taxpayers to fund.

Consider Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC. It’s been described as “the Harvard of Washington’s private schools.”

“[T]he school has educated children of notable politicians, including those of several presidents. Both of United States President Barack Obama’s daughters, Sasha and Malia, and Vice President Joe Biden’s grandchildren attend the school. President Theodore Roosevelt’s son Archibald, Richard Nixon’s daughter Tricia, Bill Clinton’s daughter Chelsea Clinton, and Vice President Al Gore’s son, Albert Gore III, graduated from Sidwell Friends.”

Then there’s Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel who finds himself in the midst of a teachers’ strike. He sends his children to the private, $20,000-a-year University of Chicago Lab School.

Similar hypocrisy among liberals can found in the gun control debate. Many high profile anti-gun advocates have armed personal bodyguards.

Those most vehemently behind the global warming farce fly around in fuel guzzling jets, drive less than fuel efficient SUVs, and live in houses with a carbon footprint the size of a small farm.

One liberal wants to equal the playing field when it comes to education. It’s very similar to economics. The best way to handle inequality is to make everybody poor.

John Cook, writing for Gawker has a simple way to solve the inequality: Force everybody into the government schools:

“Here’s the solution: Make Rahm Emanuel and Barack Obama’s children go to public schools. From a purely strategic and practical standpoint, it would be much easier to resolve the schools crisis if the futures of America’s wealthiest and most powerful children were at stake. Wealthy people tend to lobby effectively for their interests, and if their interests were to include adequate public funding for the schools their children attend, and libraries, and air-conditioning, those goals could likely be achieved without having to resort to unpleasant things like teachers’ strikes.”

Mr. Cook writes that multi-billionaire “Warren Buffet once told school reformer Michelle Rhee that the easiest way to fix schools was to ‘make private schools illegal and assign every child to a public school by random lottery.’” This “solution” would only increase the number of private tutors until they were banned.

I have a better solution. Close all government schools and let everybody pay for the education of their own children.

Mr. Cook believes adequate funding is the problem. This is typical. Most private schools can educate a child for half of what government schools spend. Homeschooling families spend even less.

My wife and I worked hard, went without, and drove older cars to send our children to real public schools — private schools that we controlled with our money and feet. We never saw a family turned away for lack of funds.

Most private schools in America are filled with average American families, many of who would be considered poor by today’s standards.

Government schools aren’t public. There is no competition. A student must attend the school assigned by geography.

Consider Marva Collins who started Westside Preparatory School in Garfield Park, and ran it for more than 30 years. Garfield Park is in Chicago.

“She is famous for applying classical education successfully with impoverished students, many of whom had been wrongly labeled as learning disabled by public schools. She once wrote, ‘I have discovered few learning disabled students in my three decades of teaching. I have, however, discovered many, many victims of teaching inabilities.’”

More government is the problem, not the solution.
