Harry Reid Was Against Anchor Babies (Before He was For Them)

Isn’t the internet great? People find some of the most interesting bits and pieces of information going back decades. There is no way to hide from eager pursuers of the truth. You never know what they’re going to find.

Dredging up political speeches is a lot of fun.

The latest example is Sen. Harry Reid of the southwestern state of Nevada. For those who don’t know it, he’s a Democrat.

Harry Reid had something to say about “anchor babies.” You would have sworn that he had was reading a script written by Donald Trump.

But that’s impossible since the following video segment is from 1993. On the Senate floor, Reid is condemning the process that illegal aliens can give birth to children in the United States and then immediately be rewarded with programs designed for United States citizens.

Here’s what he said (video below):

If making it easy to be an illegal alien isn’t enough, how about offering a reward for being an illegal immigrant? . . . No sane country would do that, right?

Guess again. If you break our laws by entering this country without permission and give birth to a child, we reward that child with U.S. citizenship and guarantee of full access to all public and social services this society provides.

And that’s a lot of services. Is it any wonder that two-thirds of the babies born at taxpayer expense at county-run hospitals in Los Angeles are born to illegal alien mothers?

In fact, the United States is the only insane country that does this sort of thing. Here’s Harry in his own words:

Was he condemned as a racist? Not that I’ve been able to find. This is probably one of the few sane things Harry Reid has ever said.
