If Bruce Jenner Can Transition into a Woman I Can Transition into an Olympic Athlete

I began my athletic career in the 7th grade with football and track and field. In the 9th grade I broke our school’s record in the shot put.

My senior year in high school I had broken every meet record in the shot put, including the Pennsylvania state record. I had the 5th best high school throw in the United States in 1968 and was invited to compete in the national high school meet the Golden West Invitational in Sacramento.

Alas, my athletic accomplishments did not continue in college. I later “transitioned” to the javelin.

Since learning that Bruce Jenner is transitioning to be a woman, I believe I can transition into an Olympic athlete through surgery, hormone treatments, and surgical muscle implants.

Jenner won the gold medal in the 1976 Olympics in the decathlon. The decathlon is a grueling test of athletic ability. A decathlete must compete in ten different track and field events: the 100 meter dash, 110 hurdles, shot put, discus, javelin, high jump, long jump, 400 meters, and the final event on the second day, the metric mile, 1500 meters.

The thing of it is, no amount of transitioning can ever make me good enough to compete as an internationally competitive athlete. There’s an old saying in sports, “You can’t get out what God didn’t put in.”

The best athletes are born with certain physical characteristics that can’t be surgically changed to make them world class athletes. Even steroids can’t enable a female athlete to compete with a world class male athlete. Steroids did not enable Barry Bonds to hit a 100 mile-per-hour fast ball with a round bat. Steroids only enhanced what was already there.

LGBT activists will argue that while Jenner’s sex is male, his gender is female because he now identifies as female. Who says? Prove it. I could identify as a house, but it wouldn’t make me a house. This sort of insanity is passed off as gender science.

The key word here is “identifies.” I can identify all day long that I am an Olympic athlete, but no amount of surgery, hormone treatments, or psychological mumbo jumbo will make me an Olympic athlete. There are a lot of people in insane asylums who identify being all types of people. When you get a chance, watch Arsenic and Old Lace, starring Cary Grant, Raymond Massey, Peter Lorre, and Priscilla Lane. John Alexander’s character “identifies” as Teddy Roosevelt , complete with the Panama Canal in the basement. He eventually “transitions” to Happy Dale Sanatorium.

The following is from Carlos D. Flores’ article “The Absurdity of Transgenderism: A Stern but Necessary Critique.”

The idea here is that people have a sex, which is either female or male and which one cannot choose. In addition to this, however, there is “gender,” or what sex one is more comfortable “identifying” as. The response to this is simple: Why think that what one “identifies as” is significant at all, especially to the extent that others should actively recognize or cater to such an identity, and especially when the identity one adopts is contrary to reality?

Consider the following analogies. Suppose that a Caucasian man from Finland—call him Gunther—suddenly decided that he identifies as being of Sub-Saharan African descent. Suppose further that, in light of this, Gunther undergoes unusual procedures to have his skin darkened and his skull’s bone structure re-shaped so as to resemble that of individuals of Sub-Saharan descent. Would we think that such a person has suddenly become of Sub-Saharan descent through such procedures? Of course not, and his identifying as such does nothing to change this. His appearance as someone of Sub-Saharan descent might be very convincing. But, again, this doesn’t change the fact that he is not of Sub-Saharan descent.

Similarly, suppose that a seventy-year-old man—call him Bob—comes to identify as a sixteen-year-old. Wouldn’t we think it absurd if people considered it “rude” or “bigoted” to tell the man: “You are not sixteen years old. Your identifying as such doesn’t change this fact, and we will not indulge you in your strange delusions by not calling attention to your old age and by pretending that you really are sixteen years old”?

Anything is possible in a world that popped into existence out of nothing and evolved without design, purpose, or morality in mind. If it all started again tomorrow, there is no guarantee that we would get the same world. So how can it be irrational for a “male” to transition to a “female”? Chemicals “transitioned” into all types of life forms. Maybe people like Bruce Jenner are trying to help evolution along.
