You Won’t Believe How Obama and Co. are Spinning the Wisconsin Recall Election

It’s no surprise that liberals are trying to spin the big win of Gov. Scott Walker and Co. in Tuesday election. Juan Williams claimed that the Tea Party didn’t have a thing to do with it. Juan, keep whistling past the graveyard. The more you underestimate what’s driving these elections since 2010, the easier it’s going to be to dump the Donkeys and RINOs.

One of the most amazing attempts at spinning the election comes from Jim Messina, the Campaign Manager for Obama for America. Here’s how he begins his letter to supporters:

“Yesterday, a terrifying experiment played out in Wisconsin.

“Republican Governor Scott Walker, one of the least popular governors in the country, managed to hold on against challenger Tom Barrett in the statewide recall election.

“After outspending his opponent nearly EIGHT to ONE.”

It wasn’t Scott Walker who called for the recall election; it was the Democrats. How is an election where people vote a “terrifying experiment”? You would think the Democratic Party, with a recall election pushed by Democrats, would praise those who participated in Democracy in action no matter what the outcome.

How is it possible that Republican Governor Scott Walker could be “one of the least popular governors in the country” when he just won a recall election by 7 percentage points and three Republican state senators and the Republican Lt. Governor also won? The man is delusional.

Then there’s this laugh out loud statement: “After outspending his opponent nearly EIGHT to ONE.” (Editor’s note: The amount spent by each side, both candidate and groups, was Walker – $45.6 million and Barrett – $17.9 million. That’s a 2.5 to 1 difference. The 8 to 1 number that Democrats are focusing in on is the amount that was raised specifically by each candidate not including independent groups. Scott Walker raised $29.7 million and Tom Barrett raised $2.9 million.)

How could “one of the least popular governors in the country” raise so much money? What Mr. Messina does not mention in his “eight to one” spending claim is that labor unions spent $21 million on the recall election. Walker had to build his campaign from the bottom up with NO union help. He started with nothing. The unions had a machine in place and contributors and supporters from across the country. Ann Coulter puts the false charge in perspective: “The left’s ‘outspent’ argument is ridiculous. Unions take money by force from members, hire hundreds of political operatives and give them salaries to work on campaigns, then call them ‘volunteers’ so their work isn’t reported as a campaign contribution.”

Messina’s delusional perspective goes on for several pages. It’s an act of desperation and an insult to all the people who spoke up boldly to keep Wisconsin from going the way of California and New York, a union-controlled state where the productive are fleeing in droves.
