I don’t follow Ultimate Fighting, but I do keep my eye on all kinds of news stories. You never know when you’ll find something of value.

Ultimate Fighting champion Ronda Rousey understands value and economics.

Rousey “was asked by a reporter . . . about her thoughts on the gender pay gap in sports,” in this case, women’s soccer in Australia.

Like tax the rich and stimulate the economy schemes, the gender pay gap is a staple liberal meme.

Here’s what she said:

“I think that how much you get paid should have something to do with how much money you bring in. I’m the highest paid fighter not because Dana and Lorenzo wanted to do something nice for the ladies — they do it because I bring in the highest numbers.”

“They do it because I make them the most money, and I think what they make should be proportionate to the money they bring in.” (H/T: Daily Caller)

If Australian women’s soccer brought in as much money as men’s soccer, I suspect the women would get paid as much. But it doesn’t, so they don’t.

The theory behind pay equality is that since women work just as hard as men, they should get the same amount of money. This is Marxism’s labor theory of value. The value is in the labor. No it’s not. The value is in what a person will be for someone’s labor.

Why don’t women’s basketball players in the WNBA get paid as much as male players in the NBA? Because women’s basketball does not make as much money. It’s that simple.

The WNBA’s highest-paid player gets $107,000 per year. Why is that? Because the majority of people don’t pay much attention to the WNBA except “on those rare occasions when players get arrested or Isiah Thomas inexplicably is named president of a team.”

It may also have something to do with the number of lesbian players who are “out and proud.” In order to bolster its fan base, the WNBA is going gay. There aren’t homosexuals to fill the empty seats.

It’s a dying franchise.

The 2014 WNBA Finals series . . . was the most-watch series since 2006, according to Sports Media Watch. The games, which aired on ABC, ESPN and ESPN2, averaged 659,000 viewers.” (H/T: Washington Post).

Compare that number to the 2015 NBA finals where the “six-game series averaged nearly 20 million viewers.”

Like I said, I don’t follow Ultimate Fighting, but I’ll bet that Ronda Rousey makes more than most men in the sport. Why? She’s popular. People like her. She represents her sport well, and it doesn’t hurt that she’s attractive and articulate.

You don’t need a degree in economics to understand economics. A degree in economics will most likely turn you into an economic dolt, but you’ll be qualified to run for Congress.
