One of the reasons a number of auto companies came south was because they were right to work states. That’s why you’ll find KIA in LaGrange, Georgia, VW in Chattannoga, Tennessee, and BMW in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Union membership has dropped precipitously in recent years. The unionists that remain have a stranglehold on the Democrat Party. The unions give tens of millions of dollars collected from union members go to Democrat candidates.

The amazing thing about the stunning UAW loss at the Chattanooga VW plant is that the union worked for more than two years to make its case. Union leaders are bullies loaded with money. Even so, the majority of eligible workers voted to nix the union:

“The dramatic rejection by workers in a 626 to 712 vote raises serious questions about the UAW’s expensive and lengthy efforts to organize foreign automakers.

A total of 89 percent of the roughly 1,550 voters that were eligible to vote cast ballots over the last few days.

“The vote here at the 4-year-old plant — after more than two years of effort by the union — may have been the Detroit union’s best chance to reverse nearly two decades of defeats and is likely to prompt a review of strategy when the union’s new leadership team, including a new president, is elected by members in June.”

As usual, union reps blamed others for the defeat. Gary Casteel, UAW regional director, said “it was unfortunate that there was outside influence.” What is a union except outside influence.

Don’t think the union will give up. They’ve got Executive-Order Barack Obama in their corner.

The Detroit Free Press reported:

“Even President Barack Obama weighed in Friday, taking aim at Tennessee Republican leaders, including U.S. Sen. Bob Corker and Gov. Bill Haslam, who he said ‘are more concerned about German shareholders than American workers.’”

Unions make everything more expensive. The people who suffer when unions take over are the people themselves. When prices go up because of union demands, the competitive price advantage goes down.

What was the deciding factor? Detroit.

“One billboard, paid for by Grover Norquist, a Washington, D.C.-based anti-tax lobbyist, reads ‘Detroit: Brought to you by the UAW’ next to an image of the long-abandoned Packard Plant ruins. Another billboard shows a graffiti artist’s red ‘X’ over the word ‘Auto’ in the union’s title replaced with a crudely lettered ‘Obama.’”

I would add one thing: Detroit: Brought to you by the UAW and the Democrats.

Nobody is forcing anybody to work for VW. If people don’t like the working conditions or the pay, then let them go somewhere else. I’ll bet that for every job opening, there would be 100 people who would stand in line in the freezing cold to get it.
