Obama’s New Program to Steal More Money from Taxpayers and Buy Votes

Let’s suppose I wanted to send my children to college, but I couldn’t afford it. So I decided to steal the identity of one of my neighbors and take money from his account and use it to send my children to college.

Would that be morally justifiable? I suspect that a majority of people would say no.

But what if I got some of my other neighbors and we stole the identity of several other neighbors so we could have enough money to send our children to college.

Again, I would wager that a majority of Americans would say that doing such a thing was morally wrong.

The one neighbor calls a meeting saying that he has a legal and moral way to pay for the college education of his children and the children of some of the other neighbor’s children.

The meeting room, of course, was packed. The promise of free stuff always draws a crowd.

Here’s the proposal as reported by Politico:

“We elect people to office and let them take money from some of our neighbors so we can pay for a college education for our children.”

It’s ingenious. Moral dilemma solved.

Here comes the latest government theft program: free college tuition:

“President Barack Obama will need the approval of Congress to realize his proposal for making two years of community college free for students.

“So far, that plan doesn’t have an official price tag — other than ‘significant,’ according to White House officials. If all 50 states participate, the proposal could benefit 9 million students each year and save students an average of $3,800 in tuition, the White House said.”

Three cheers for free college! Let’s not forget free healthcare and free prescription drugs.

Who’s going to pay for “making two years of community college free for students”? Taxpayers. The government is going to take money from you and me and give it to other people.

Some will argue that we do this already with public (government) education, and they would be right.

The government should get out of the education business. Everybody should pay for the education of their own children at all levels – K through 12 and beyond. It’s not right for some people to be taxed for the education of children that aren’t their own.

What’s next? Food? Housing? I forgot. We’re already doing these things, and the numbers are only increasing. The government is deep in the pockets of millions of Americans and creating a parallel dependent class.

Like Republican Mitt Romney’s healthcare system in Massachusetts was the inspiration for Obamacare, “Republican Gov. Bill Haslam, whose brainchild Tennessee Promise program strongly influenced Obama’s proposal. Beginning this year, any high school graduate in that state is eligible for two years of free community college tuition under the Tennessee Promise.”

Obama’s program is being called “America’s College Promise.” I’m an American. I haven’t made any such promise, but now I’m going to be forced to make a promise and be forced to pay for it.

There is opposition to Obama’s proposal because it doesn’t do enough! Liberals want more than just tuition paid for.

“The Institute for College Access and Success, which is typically in step with the Obama administration, called the proposal ‘a wolf in sheep’s clothing.’ Among the problems, TICAS says, is that the more substantial costs of college — living expenses, textbooks and transportation — are typically left out of the deal.”

More debt. More government intrusion. More government control. More government theft.
