The Affordable Care Act — ObamaCare — consisted of 2700 pages. This was just the beginning. Once the lawyers, courts, bureaucrats, and later acts of Congress got their greedy vote-begging hands on the monstrosity the implementation of the law would escalate beyond comprehension. Our fears have come to pass:

“These regulations add up to 10,516 pages in the Federal Register — or more than eight times as many pages as there are in the Gutenberg Bible, which has 642 two-sided leaves or 1,286 pages.

“The final Obamacare rules that have been published so far range from the regulation for implementing an excise tax on tanning services, to a 546-page regulation on hospital payment systems, a 196-page regulation on electronic health records, revisions to Medicare and an 111-page regulation for the Children’s Health Insurance Programs (CHIP).”

Don’t think it’s going to stop with 10,516 pages. Every detail of the law will have to be explained, deciphered, and litigated. When something doesn’t work, a new set of regulations will have to be written.

The Constitution of the United States was written on four sheets of parchment. If you count the Preamble and all 27 Amendments (there were originally only ten), it comes out to 20 typed pages. If you don’t count the signatures and amendments, the document consists of 11 typed pages.

No single Amendment is a full page. Many are only a single sentence in length.

The First Amendment covers a multitude of freedoms: religion, press, assembly, speech, and the right to petition the government. It does it with only 45 words.

Those original four sheets, about 4500 words, were good enough to serve for the government of our nation.

Can you imagine what what’s going to happen with the 1200-page (so far) immigration bill with similar interpretive powers for Congress and the Courts? Consider how much damage these two governmental branches have been able to do with just four sheets of parchment. What will they be capable of doing with 1200 pages of an immigration bill, 2700 pages of a healthcare bill, and more than 10,500 pages of regulations that will enable them to govern every facet of our lives?

The Constitution takes about 30 minutes to read. The Declaration of Independence has 1,458 words, with the signatures. It takes about ten minutes to read it.

I’d be willing to wager that there are some members of Congress who haven’t read either document all the way through.

There’s a very good chance that not a single member of Congress has read the Affordable Care Act or the most recent Immigration bill that they’re trying to shove down our throats.

Then there’s the question of who actually wrote these bills? I want a list of names.

We didn’t elect these people, so they shouldn’t be writing our laws. The same is true for the thousands of pages of regulations.

With these thousands of pages of regulations, there won’t be a single area of our lives that’s not regulated.
