Muslim Congressman Keith Ellison Demands Amazon Stop Selling Books the SPLC Dislikes

Democrat Congressman and Muslim Brotherhood-linked Keith Ellison took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States. It’s rare that you can find a member of Congress that abides by that oath, but Ellison has taken his disloyalty to his oath to a new level.

Ellison, who is “the deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee, wrote to Amazon.com’s Jeff Bezos, demanding that he no longer sell at Amazon any material that the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) dislikes.”

No Congressman should use his or her authority to violate the First Amendment that begins with a prohibition against Congress:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Freedom of speech and the press are not reserved for media outlets like CNN, MSNBC, and Fox. Today, anyone who publishes, whether it’s a self-published book (something Amazon excels in) or a blog post, is protected by the First Amendment. Congress cannot interfere. A private company can refuse to publish someone’s work, but the government has no authority to put pressure on a private company like Ellison did.

Not surprisingly, Ellison removed the letter from his congressional website: “The requested file was not found.” You can read the entire letter here.

Ellison’s cover is to rid Amazon of racist and Nazi material. But this paragraph goes far beyond these two categories of books:

I am writing to you with my concerns about the amount of money Amazon has made from the sale of literature and music published by entities identified as “hate groups” by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

The Koran has a lot of hateful material in it. It didn’t stop Ellison from taking his oath of office with his hand on the two-volume set from Thomas Jefferson’s library. There are many people who consider the Koran to be “hate literature.”

The SPLC has developed a list of hate groups. This list has been sent to police departments and organizations like Amazon. If you or your organization is on that list, you will be discriminated against. If you or your organization oppose same-sex marriage, you or your organization is most likely on that list.

What makes the hate list of the Southern Poverty Law Center different from the “burn book” a high school queen bee keeps in the 2004 movie “Mean Girls”? Answer: not much. The burn book was a compilation of insults, gossip, and rumors intended to repel the diva’s “enemies,” label everybody, and keep herself on top of the heap.

The SPLC uses its list of designated hate groups in much the same way: to manipulate the lives of others, smear reputations, control personal relationships, and reap the spoils. The dynamic is the same, whether played on the adolescent scene or in the political arena. Both lists serve mostly as power-mongering tools. (The Federalist)

The list is bogus, but some very powerful organizations use it as their bible to discriminate against conservatives. recently, there was been some pushback. For example, “Two years ago, the FBI deleted the SPLC from its website’s list of legitimate resources on hate crimes. This is a promising sign of growing clarity that the SPLC’s designations for hate groups lack legitimacy. There also seems to be growing boldness in calling out the SPLC for its tactics intended to shut down serious scholarship.” (The Federalist)

The SPLC settled a defamation suit for more than $3 million with Muslim reformer Maajid Nawaz. The SPLC branded him an “anti-Muslim extremist.” You might make the list if you attack Islamic extremism. Because of Nawaz’s suit, “up to 60 mostly conservative organizations may sue the Southern Poverty Law Center for being included in the organization’s list of ‘hate groups.’ … Dozens of Christian and conservative groups have been similarly unfairly tarred by the SPLC as ‘hate groups,’ and it appears they will exact their own revenge on the organization.”

Democrats and Leftists used to promote free speech and free speech rights. Now they are the censors. They don’t like opposition research or opposing opinions. When they can’t win at the ballot box, they appeal to the courts, when they can’t win with their cadre of Leftist judges, they use the free speech platform to call for closing the door on people they disagree with.

Former Netflix talk show host Chelsea Handler, took to Twitter on Friday and asked executives of the social media site to remove President Trump’s account, claiming that, “No leader of any country should be tweeting threats to people and other countries.” (Breitbart)

What people like Handler and Ellison really want is for Amazon to ban all books that disagree with their evil and irrational policies. In their limited intellectual ability, anyone who disagrees with them is a Neo-Nazi and racist, therefore, any book they might publish is hate-group material by definition.
