Mayor Michael Bloomberg may not be mayor of NY anymore, but he hasn’t stopped trying to be a major political force. His latest adventure into trying to force his opinions on the rest of America is a frontal assault on the Second Amendment. He’s putting up $50 million to bring down the NRA and other pro-Second Amendment organizations.

In addition, former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Justice Stevens wants to add five words to the Second Amendment to bring it into conformity with his worldview. If Stevens had his way, the newly formulated Second Amendment would read:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms when serving in the militia shall not be infringed.”

This is an admission that the Second Amendment did not limit ownership only to those who formally served in the military, otherwise, why the need to add “when serving in the militia”?

Moreover, it wouldn’t be much of a militia if those in the militia weren’t armed, so the addition of his proposed five words turns the Amendment into logical nonsense.

It also would mean that only criminals and the military would be armed.

If a president ever implemented martial law and never rescinded the order, the American people would be at the mercy of the military that would be a better armed criminal force who served at the pleasure of a dictator.

But back to Michael Bloomberg and his mega millions:

“In a glowing interview with former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Wednesday’s NBC Today, co-host Savannah Guthrie touted the anti-gun activist’s latest crusade: ‘You’re putting $50 million into the effort . . . saying essentially this new group is going to borrow a page from the NRA’s playbook. The NRA has been very successful in frightening lawmakers who oppose them…. You’re quoted in The New York Times this morning saying, “We have to make them afraid of us.”’”

Whatever happened to “too much money in politics”? Money is no object and is not a problem as long as the cause is a leftist cause. The hundreds of millions of dollars that the unions put into elections is not a problem for liberals because only liberal causes are legitimate.

Why is it OK for billionaire Bloomberg to put tens of millions of dollar in a single campaign, but it’s evil for the Koch brothers to fund policies they believe are fundamental to freedom?

We can’t claim “hypocrisy” since no one is listening. The media don’t ever see hypocrisy in these types of stories. “Liberal policies good . . . Non-liberal policies bad.” This is the extent of their ability to think though an issue.

Consider this statement by Bloomberg: “Look, it’s a heavy political lift [spending $50 million on this effort]. 31,000 Americans either get murdered or commit suicide with illegal guns.”

Did you catch that?: “with illegal guns.” There are hundreds of laws on the books at this very moment that restrict gun ownership in too many ways to number. Criminals who don’t care about existing laws aren’t going to care about any new laws.

These new laws will only affect law-abiding people who do not murder, except that now law-abiding citizens will be defenseless prey for illegal gun owners thanks to Michael Bloomberg and his millions.

Bloomberg says that eliminating gun ownership is the not the goal. President Obama promised that we could keep our healthcare policies, our doctors, and we would all save money if the Affordable Care Act passed. We’ve seen how that promise worked out.
