The motive in the Charleston church shooting seems to be about the shooter’s perverted view of race. As a result, the media are calling it a racial “hate crime” and that the alleged shooter Dylann Roof was mentally ill, a common way to explain murderous acts these days. It’s all about brain circuitry.

Andrew Sandlin comments:

“I’m hearing even conservative commentators offer as the most obvious explanation for the Charleston, SC church murders that the perpetrator was ‘mentally deranged’ or ‘mentally unhinged’ — words similar to those liberals often use to describe ISIS. Apparently, it’s no longer possible for such people to be simply wicked, godless, and depraved. A secular age loses any moral lexicon.”

We live in a morally toxic culture where few people are willing to identify the toxin because they don’t believe it exists. Sin and moral corruption are passé. There is no longer a discernable and identifiable moral center in our world. The new word is “fluidity.” What was once thought to be immoral is now a virtue. Why is anything right or wrong? A person can be whatever he or she wants to be even when it’s contrary to all rational thought.

While there is certainly a racial aspect to the murders of nine blacks that took place in a church during a prayer meeting that the alleged murderer attended, there is also a religious component that few people are noting or want to note. The murders took place in a Christian church. Not at a nightclub. Not on a playground. Not at a black-owned business.

Jerry Bowyer writes the following about the church shooting:

“It’s not just murder — it’s sacrilege. Those people were on Holy Ground. Those people were Holy Ground. They were assassinated while in God’s house. Murder in God’s house is not just murder. It is treason against the King.”

Americans don’t often think in these terms anymore.

Christians have become easy targets today. Christians and Christian churches are being attacked overseas by ISIS with almost no pushback from President Obama or mention by the media. In addition, there are daily news stories about how Christians who stand up for their personal beliefs are attacked by the courts, the media, and advocates for same-sex marriage. There are articles warning that churches may be compelled to accept same-sex marriage or lose their tax-exempt status . . . or worse.

Homosexual and same-sex advocate Dan Savage called the Bible’s views on homosexuality “bull shit” and bullied journalism students who found his comments offensive. The anti-bully Savage gives the impression that it’s OK to bully Christians who believe that same-sex sexuality is not a moral virtue.

Miley Cyrus, followed by millions, has publically attacked the Bible and Christianity in general. She has adopted the new “fluid” worldview. “[W]ith her set of inflammatory statements about her feelings on conservatives (‘they shouldn’t make our laws’) and sexual liberty (‘I am literally open to every single thing, as long as it’s consenting’), it seems that Miley has emerged from her time of rebellion as a fully-formed product of a lifetime of others’ adulation.”

How many times have you heard that conservatives are on the “wrong side of history” when it comes to what is happening in our culture today? It’s much like Edmund Burke who was said to be on the wrong side of history when he opposed the French Revolution in his book Reflections on the Revolution in France. History proved him right and his critics wrong.

There have been attempts by cities and colleges to keep Chick-fil-A out of their cities and off their campuses because of the owners’ views on same sex marriage. Many liberals found this to be acceptable.

“At least 30 colleges and universities have had students start petitions to remove the fast food chain Chick-fil-A from their campus, and many of the protests are popping up in states considered to be relatively conservative.”

Let’s not forget Floyd Corkins who bought a gun, loaded three magazines “stopped by Chick-fil-A to pick up 15 sandwiches, which he planned to smear in the dying faces of staffers he expected to kill at the Family Research Council in Washington.”

Corkin had been reading comments about the Family Research Council on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s website. The SPLC is notorious for targeting Christian groups for fundraising purposes.

Then there’s New York Times columnist Frank Bruni and furniture tycoon Mitchell Gold who “have agreed that Christian churches ‘must’ be convinced, or coerced, to change their teachings on sexual morality and abandon an ‘ossified’ doctrinal teaching that sex outside heterosexual marriage is immoral.”

“The LGBT militants are not asking to be left alone,” Pat Buchanan argues. “They are demanding that we accept the morality of homosexuality and same-sex marriages, and manifest that acceptance, under pain of law and sanctions, in our daily lives.”

All of these and many more examples make it easy for someone like Dylann Roof or Floyd Corkin to pick a church setting or a Christian organization as a target. They are today’s cultural outliers.
