Liberals Believe in Selective Freedom of Choice

Anti-abortionists are accused of being “anti-choice.” When this epithet is leveled at people who oppose abortion, I always ask, “The choice to do what?” Choice is not a neutral term. A choice means a decision to do something. When a woman chooses an abortion, she is choosing to kill her pre-born baby.

If a woman were choosing to get a tattoo, no one would object since her skin is her body. The same is true if she wants to pierce her tongue, navel, or other body part. But what’s growing inside a woman’s womb is not inert matter; it’s a baby.

Democrats who promote a pro-abortion position claim that they are the party of “choice.” Nothing could be further from the truth.

Those pushing homosexual marriage argue that it’s about “equality,” that is, “equality of choice.” If people of the opposite sex can choice what person to marry, then people of the same sex should be able to choose who to marry. Sounds reasonable until you think it through and realize that heterosexuals are denied the same thing that homosexuals are denied: the right to choice someone to marry of the same sex.

Unionism is against freedom of choice. Business owners are not free to pay what they want, people who don’t want to join a union are forced to do so, and when workers disagree with union principles they are often violently attacked when they exercise their freedom to choose who they want to work with at what price.

At the same time that Liberals love anti-choice unionism in their opposition to right-to-work legislation, they also oppose school choice. At this point in time, Americans are taxed to fund Government schools. No one has a choice not to fund Government schools.

If families want to choose to send their children to a private school, a church school, or to educate them at home, they are still required to pay taxes to fund the Government education of the children of their neighbors. They don’t have a choice.

One would think that with all their talk about “choice” that Democrats would be promoting the School Choice Movement.

The Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice states:

“School Choice is a common sense idea that gives all parents the power and freedom to choose their child’s education, while encouraging healthy competition among schools and other institutions to better serve students’ needs and priorities.

“School Choice is a public policy that allows a parent/guardian or student to choose a district, charter, or private school, regardless of residence and location.

“It is immoral that the quality of schooling is based on the value and location of your home. School choice gives parents the freedom to choose a school based on its quality and their child’s needs, not their home address.”

The Liberal denial of school choice isn’t about the quality of education; it’s about the control of education and the control of our children.
