The ‘Jesus Had Two Dads’ Myth

My wife and I taught our two sons never to call somebody or something stupid. If you use a word too often it loses its meaning. It’s the same with a well-placed but rare expletive. Sometimes it’s needed to make a point.

Here’s something that’s really stupid from St. John’s Anglican Church in Ontario, Canada:

“An Anglican congregation in Ontario, Canada recently posted a billboard in front of its church that includes the pro-gay message: ‘Jesus had two dads and he turned out just fine.’”Two_Dads_Just_Fine

Following this type of logic, all Christians have two dads – their earthly biological father and God. The Lord’s Prayer begins, “Our Father who art in heaven. . .” Because of our adoption, we cry out, “Abba! Father” (Rom. 8:15) just like Jesus (Mark 14:36).

How any of this has anything to do with same-sex sex and same-sex marriage is beyond me. If you’re going to appeal to the Bible for the two fathers’ analogy, then it’s incumbent upon you to consider all the Bible.

The established sexual relationship is between a man and a woman. The earliest pages of Genesis establish the marital and sexual norm — one man and one woman. There’s doesn’t have to be a prohibition against any other type of relationship. The positive affirmation is enough to define the proper role of men and women.

Even so, there are specific negative sanctions against same-sex relationships in the Old Testament (Lev 18:22; 20:13) and the New Testament (Rom. 1:24–27; 1 Cor. 6:9–11; 1 Tim. 1:8–11). Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, who claims to be a Christian, is woefully ignorant on this topic as he displayed when he answered a question related to his Christian faith and his support of homosexual marriage.

There’s one more point to be made, but I hesitate to make it, but I must in order to expose the absurdities that some pro-same-sex sexualists will go to support an unsupportable cause.

Children have been raised by aunts and uncles, grandparents, and close friends. The issue before us is the nature of the union. In terms of homosexuality, we’re talking about these two dads engaging in sexual relations with one another.

I doubt that a case can be made that this was a relationship that Joseph, Jesus’ earthly father, and God were engaged in.

Like I said . . . stupid, ignorant, and perverted,

But what do you expect from people who seem to have flunked ninth-grade biology and first-grade Sunday School?
