Hey GOP . . . How Could You Compromise with These Guys?
Establishment GOP candidates love to talk about reaching across the aisle to work with Democrats. Sen. John McCain is the most notorious advocate of this position.
It never works. You would think that McCain would understand how compromise does not work. Being a prisoner of war should have taught him this.
It hasn’t.
While the Republicans are compromising, the Democrats are always working behind the scenes to disembowel them.
“John Podesta was just named as a new senior-level adviser to President Obama. . . , but he’s already ruffling Republican feathers.
“In a profile published . . . by Politico Magazine, Podesta is quoted comparing Republicans to the infamous cult led by Jim Jones, who was responsible for the 1978 cyanide poisoning of more than 900 of his followers in Guyana.
“‘They need to focus on executive action given that they are facing a second term against a cult worthy of Jonestown in charge of one of the houses of Congress,’ said Podesta of what Obama’s White House team faces. Jonestown was the informal name of the settlement founded by Jones and his American followers.”
Of course, Podesta later apologized. That’s all liberals have to do.
Podesta is still a senior-level adviser to President Obama, and the GOP still is in the mood to compromise and get steamrolled by the Democrats.
But instead of fighting the Democrats, Establishment Republicans are fighting their only chance to beat the Democrats. There have been articles about how the Chamber of Commerce is putting $50 million behind an effort to beat Tea Party candidates in the next election.
Here’s some good news. Harvard sociology professor Theda Skocpol believes that if the Tea Party stands its ground, that it will “win in the end.”
Theda Skocpol believes the Tea Party “will triumph just by hanging on long enough” because many Americans are tired of the way our government has been “blatantly manipulated” by politicians of both parties.
She writes:
“The Tea Party was supposed to be dead and the GOP on the way to moderate repositioning after Obama’s victory and Democratic congressional gains in November 2012. . . The Tea Party’s hold on the GOP persists beyond each burial ceremony.”
This is no time to declare victory. Now is the time to double our efforts. We may not get another chance.
