Guns, Cakes, Murderers, Gay Weddings, and Liberal ‘Logic’

You don’t have to be a genius to think like a genius, and you don’t have to be a moron to think like a moron. Here’s some moronic thinking:

If selling a gay couple a wedding cake means a ‘christian’ baker participated in their marriage, does selling a gun to a murderer mean a ‘christian’ gun store owner participated in the murder?

This meme was produced by BeingLiberal.org.

It’s a perfect example of liberal thinking, or more accurately, liberal non-thinking. But being a liberal is all about not thinking.

My business partner owns a gun store. If he knew the gun he was selling would be used to murder someone, he wouldn’t sell him the gun and most likely would call the police.

Gun Logic Meme

If a man walked into a gun store and purchased a gun that was later used in a murder, the owner of the gun store would no more be liable than a car salesman who sold a car to someone who got drunk, drove the newly purchased automobile while intoxicated, and killed somebody on the way home from the bar.

There have been cases where establishments selling alcohol have been sued for continuing to sell alcohol to someone who was obviously intoxicated and later was involved in a drunk-driving fatality.

How would a gun store owner know who was a murderer or was about to be a murderer? He wouldn’t. The same is true for the person who sold pressure cookers to the two men who participated in the Boston Marathon bombings. If he had known what they were going to be used for, I’m sure he would not have sold them and would have called the police. Terrorists generally don’t usually reveal their plans.

How would a baker know if someone was participating in a homosexual wedding? She wouldn’t unless she was told that the cake was for a same-sex wedding. If a homosexual wanted a cake that had nothing to do with a same-sex wedding, in most cases (probably all since who comes into a bakery and starts talking about what kind of sex they engage in?) a baker would bake the cake.

Should an anti-gun baker who was asked to bake a cake for the NRA or Gun Owners of America be forced to do so? Of course not.

gun cake

It’s the message that’s at issue, not the cake. If  Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev had wanted a cake celebrating the Boston Marathon bombing, I suspect that the baker would have been within his rights to refuse.

The same is true if a racist, white supremacist, or an anti-Semite asked for a plain cake. They most likely would be served since the baker would not know their personal views on race and Jews. But if any of these customers asked for racist, white supremacist, or anti-Semitic writing on the cake, a baker should have the right to refuse.

Being liberal means not being able to think rationally.
