A Maryland man has been arrested who referred to himself as “a joker,” presumably a reference to the Batman character that seems to have inspired James Holmes in the Aurora, Colorado, movie theater massacre.

Police arrested 28-year-old Neil Prescott after he allegedly called his employer several times and threatened to “shoot the place up.” Not only is this guy a nut job; he’s stupid, too.

Prescott allegedly told his supervisor in a phone conversation, “I am a joker. I’m gonna load my guns and blow everybody up.”

When police took Prescott into custody, he was wearing a T-shirt that said, “Guns don’t kill people. I do.”

Finally, someone who gets it. Prescott might be a nut job, but he understands that none of the weapons in his considerable arsenal would do anything if he didn’t first pick up a weapon, load it with ammunition, and fire it at someone.

He said it himself: “I’m gonna load my guns and blow everybody up.” He would load HIS guns, and HE would blow everybody up.

Weapons don’t have brains, minds, legs, hands, or fingers. A gun will only shoot what’s already been loaded in it. It has no idea what it’s being aimed out and what it will strike with what it’s armed with. It still needs someone to aim it and pull the trigger.

A search of the suspect’s home turned up more than 20 guns, including assault rifles and handguns, and more than 400 rounds of ammunition. They could have sat there until doomsday and they wouldn’t have done harm to anyone.

It takes a person to fire a gun. It takes a person to decide to kill someone. The vast majority of gun owners — more than 99 percent of them — never kill anyone, either in self-defense or out of anger or delusional apparition. It took a potential mass murderer to remind some leftist nut jobs of the truth that “Guns don’t kill people. People do.”
