The 2008 election of Barack Obama was the election of a rock-star: Some good guitar riffs, but only a few notes and most off key. Not only did Blacks vote in record numbers, but it seems that every high-profile liberal got behind his candidacy. It was all about the music.

In 2007, Barack Obama presented himself as the candidate of change and worked to lure Democrats with ads that promised that: “We Can End a War,” “We Can Save the Planet,” “We Can Change the World.”

This is pretty heady and ambitious stuff, which inspired famous (or near-famous) actors and musical performers to cut a video that caught the attention of millions of Americans.

Most voters are easily fooled. They can’t name the Vice-President or the Attorney General, so they listen to what some Hollywood actor says about a politician. These guys are no more informed than the average 6^th grader. They live in a world far above the maddening crowd where most of us do things for ourselves. Their guilt for making so much money by doing very little leads them to support candidates who will do things for other people with other people’s money.

Now some of these big stars are dumping on their former political messiah and guitar hero. Matt Damon, a fashionable liberal – he makes tens of millions of dollars but talks as if he’s one of us – is no longer in Obama’s corner.

Damon was radicalized by Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States. It changed his thinking so that he had “a desire to make life better for everybody.” He believed, like Zinn, that government was the answer. Has Damon come to his senses?

“I’ve talked to a lot of people who worked for Obama at the grassroots level. One of them said to me, ‘Never again. I will never be fooled again by a politician,’ ” Damon told [Elle] magazine. “You know, a one-term president with some balls who actually got stuff done would have been, in the long run of the country, much better.”

Damon pointed to the Occupy Wall Street movement as proof that more needs to be done. “If the Democrats think that they didn’t have a mandate — people are literally without any focus or leadership, just wandering out into the streets to yell right now because they are so pissed off,” he said, adding, “Imagine if they had a leader.”

Unfortunately, Damon still believes government is the answer rather than the problem. All we need is a leader to direct and consolidate the rabble. The German people wanted a leader. Be careful what you wish for, Matt. You might get it and regret it even more.

Some Hollywood types are still useful idiots. Sean Penn is at the top of the heap. But at least there are other actors who are willing to take him down a peg or two.

Cuban-born Alonso approached Penn to question why he advocated support for controversial Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. According to Alonso, the argument intensified to the point where Penn, who had returned to the country from Haiti, called his former on-screen love interest “a pig,” to which she responded: “And you are a communist a**hole! It is great to live the way you do as a communist!”

Alonso regretted the profanity and the public way the confrontation took place, but she still thinks Penn is blinded by Chavez’s rhetoric.
