In a previous article, I told how my wife and I cancelled our Sleep Number Bed after the company stopped advertising on the Rush Limbaugh Show. We ordered a Dream Number bed instead. We’ve had two glorious nights of sleep on it. We’re sleeping better because of the bed and because in a very small way we made a statement.

The online computer backup company Carbonite also bailed on Rush Limbaugh’s show as an advertiser. I’ve spoken with a lot of people who would like to drop Carbonite, but they’re locked into year-long contracts. Carbonite stock continues to drop as the stock market continues to rise. “[A]ccording to Terry Ponick of the Washington Times, [Carbonite] now sits at 60% off a 2011 high mark in a difficult market.”

Of course, I’m NOT elated that Carbonite stock has fallen, because the people who are hurt by the stock drop are investors who had no decision-making power to leave the Rush Limbaugh Show as an advertiser. But you’ve got to believe that liberals are shocked by listener reaction to Rush’s show, and for that I am elated.

People who vote with their money is the ultimate act of political defiance. When the checks stop coming, a company has to retool. That’s why liberals want to control every part of the economy. They can’t leave anything to chance. If they can control the media, the voter rolls, the polling data, and how our tax dollars are spent they believe they can control the country. The one item they have not been able to control, at least not yet, is how people spend their money and the free flow of information, something they are trying to control.

Liberals believed that the Sandra Fluke episode would bring down Rush Limbaugh. The news of Rush’s radio death was way too premature. For years liberals have gotten away with saying some of the most outrageous and vile things about their political opponents, and because the mainstream media covered for them, most Americans were not aware of what they spewed out each day.

AF — After Fluke — Liberals had to start defending the antics of liberal commentators who ridiculed conservative women with demeaning sexual putdowns. Democrats had to explain why they could take a $1 million donation from the vile Bill Maher and still condemn Rush Limbaugh for calling Sandra Fluke a “slut” when these same women were extolling the virtues of the “Vagina Monologues” where the word c**t “is a lovely word despite its disconcerting connotations.” It’s a glorious thing to watch.

There are indications that Rush Limbaugh’s ratings are going up as a result of the Sandra Fluke controversy. “The irony is that [Rush Limbaugh] probably right now has the biggest audience he’s had in years, and the double irony of all this is sponsors that are fleeing, they’re missing out on the best advertising buy in radio,” radio expert Michael Harrison told Washington’s Daily Caller in an interview.

According to the Daily Caller, “Limbaugh’s fans, said Harrison, will galvanize around him, not abandon him. Many of his detractors are listening because they feel vindicated, he explained, and still others are tuning in to hear what the fuss is about.”

There’s a lesson in all of this. America still has a chance. I meet and speak with people from all over the country who are fed up but don’t know how to give voice to their frustrations. Rush Limbaugh’s Sandra Fluke moment, although not pretty or well executed, may have been the catalyst to shut the mouths of liberal pundits who have gotten away with character assassination for decades.
