The Problem with ObamaCare is ObamaCare not the Website
Republicans have already lost the argument on ObamaCare by grilling Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on how bad the HealthCare.gov website is functioning. It’s an admission that ObamaCare is good policy and we’re stuck with it as long as we have a website that works.
When the website is fixed, and it most likely will be since big-name IT companies are getting involved, what argument will the GOP have against ObamaCare?
“Google Inc. (GOOG:US), Red Hat Inc. (RHT:US), Oracle Corp. (ORCL:US) and other technology companies are contributing dozens of computer engineers and programmers to help the Obama administration fix the U.S. health-insurance exchange website.
“The help is arriving as the government’s main site for medical coverage remains plagued by repeated outages a month after its Oct. 1 debut. Michael Dickerson, a site reliability engineer on leave from Google, and Greg Gershman, innovation director for smartphone application maker Mobomo, are among those helping, the Obama administration said yesterday.”
The anti-ObamaCare crowd has painted itself in a corner. They’re trying to get out of it by arguing that Obama lied about people being able to keep the healthcare coverage they had. The lie is real, but we’re already seeing the Democrats circling the wagons to protect Obama.
- Yes, he exaggerated, and he shouldn’t have done that.
- If he had told the truth about ObamaCare, then the law never would have passed.
- People are too stupid to make their own healthcare decisions.
- What we really need to solve all of these technical problems is a single-payer system.
Personally, I think it’s too late to retreat on ObamaCare. There is no stopping the ObamaCare train. We’re stuck with it unless there is a massive reversal of political fortune in Congress. But with big-money establishment Republicans targeting Tea Party candidates and pushing for amnesty, it looks like the train has left the station, and it’s not making a return trip. It’s the Polar Express of all government programs.
Some states like South Carolina are trying to fight ObamaCare’s implementation:
“The South Carolina state House passed a bill Wednesday that declares President Obama’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to be ‘null and void,’ and criminalizes its implementation.
“The state’s Freedom of Health Care Protection Act intends to ‘prohibit certain individuals from enforcing or attempting to enforce such unconstitutional laws; and to establish criminal penalties and civil liability for violating this article.’”
Like the courts do on anti-abortion legislation, they will rule against the states and make it criminal NOT to implement ObamaCare. There will be the claim that it violates citizens’ 14th Amendment rights or some other such Constitutional right.
I hate to be so pessimistic, but with a weak-kneed GOP, I don’t expect much opposition. Anything you are hearing from the Republicans in opposition is mostly for show so they can get reelected.
