After Mocking and Ridiculing Christians Will Joy Behar Ridicule and Mock Muslims?
Christians are soft targets for anti-Christian media bigots. Joy Behar on “The View” is the latest example. She took a swipe at Vice President Mike Pence’s Christian beliefs with some of the most offensive comments I’ve heard on a mainstream TV show. Not only did her comments reveal her bigotry but they exposed her willful ignorance.
Behar would never speak critically of Islam. If the Florida school shooter had been a Muslim, she and her co-hosts would be falling over themselves so as not to “indict all Muslims” by claiming that Islam is a “religion of peace.”
If you’re going to comment on a subject, make sure you know what you’re talking about.
It wasn’t too long ago that the media attacked Pence because he would not meet with a woman without his wife being present. This was thought to be the height of prudishness from a bygone religious era. “Believers are told by the elites that they are old-fashioned, outdated and simply out of touch with reality” (Christian Post) when it’s those outdated ideas that built the greatest nation the world has ever seen.
Soon after, stories flooded the internet with charges of sexual abuse about Harvey Weinstein and numerous other Hollywood types and CEOs of big-name companies. Resignations, lawsuits, and threats of reprisals are in process. Pence is getting the last laugh.
Behar describes Pence’s misrepresented Christian faith as a form of “mental illness.”
Pence said during a broadcast with Axios journalist Mike Allen, “I actually heard that ABC has a program that compared my Christianity to mental illness. And I’d like to laugh about it, but I really can’t.”
“It’s just wrong,” Pence continued. “And it’s an insult not to me, but to the vast majority of the American people who, like me, cherish their faith. My Christianity is the most important thing in my life.”
Also on “The View,” Behar went on to joke, “My question is, can he talk to Mary Magdalene without his wife in the room?”
Anyone familiar with the history of tyrannical regimes knows that a charge of “mental illness” was a way to remove dissidents from society. “There was systematic political abuse of psychiatry in the Soviet Union, based on the interpretation of political opposition or dissent as a psychiatric problem. It was called ‘psychopathological mechanisms’ of dissent.” (Wikipedia)
Harvard law school professor Alan Dershowitz decries the tactic of claiming that a political opponent is mentally ill if there is a disagreement over policies and methods. “That’s what they did in Russia. I represented dissidents who they locked up in mental hospitals, that’s what they did in China, that’s what they did in apartheid South Africa.”
I wonder if Behar will attack Oprah Winfrey because she said that she would not be running for President in 2020 “because if God actually wanted me to run, wouldn’t God kinda tell me? And I haven’t heard that,” she said. (CBS News) Why isn’t Oprah’s waiting for God to tell her to run for President a form of mental illness?
Joy Behar would never attack Muslims the way she and her fellow-View compatriots attack Christians because they fear possible Muslim physical reprisals.
When ridiculed, Christians won’t rape or kill you. They won’t slit your throat or burn down your house. Christians will turn the other cheek (Matt. 5:39). They have been told by Jesus that verbal assaults would come:
Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you” (Matt. 5:11-12).
In fact, Christians are told not only to love their neighbors (Lev. 19:17; Matt. 22:39; Mark 12:30-31; Gal. 5:14) but to love their enemies:
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matt. 5:43-48).
You will never hear this type of theology from Islam. That’s why Joy Behar will never ridicule and mock a Muslim’s faith.
In the end, it will be Christianity that will save the world from the advance of Islam and the decadence of the present era.
