Media Spiking and Manufacturing News Stories to Get Obama Re-Elected is a Sign of Liberal Desperation

Stories that are harmful to the president’s re-election efforts are spiked, news that puts the president in a good light are turned into front-page headlines, and when they can’t find either, the media manufactures news out of thin air. This is good news! It shows that liberalism can’t stand on the truth.

Ten former presidential advisers are warning that if present economic policies continue, the next crisis could dwarf what we saw in 2008. Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) says, “We’re approaching financial Armageddon.” Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) calls it “a fiscal Titanic.”

These are Democrats saying these things! If a Republican was in the White House, and Republicans were this critical of the president, it would be front-page news all day every day.

You might not have hard about the 43 Catholic agencies and dioceses that are suing the Obama administration over mandates that the church pay for contraceptives. These agencies are not calling on the government to prohibit women from using contraceptives. Based on their particular religious beliefs, they maintain it’s a violation of the First Amendment to force their churches, schools, and charitable organizations to fund birth control devices.1

One would think that a First Amendment issue of this magnitude would be reported by the media. You would also think that the ACLU would come to the church’s aid. No such chance. Most of the networks have ignored the story. One network gave it 18 seconds of coverage. There are 60 million Roman Catholics in the United States, and this isn’t news?

The embarrassing voting primary statistics that came out of Arkansas, Kentucky, and West Virginia, where a convicted felon received 40 percent of the vote, have been downplayed if not totally ignored. And why not; the numbers are an embarrassment to the president. The media have given up any semblance of being objective news gathering and reporting agents and instead have become an extension of the Democrat Party.

They need to be reminded that the reason for “freedom of the press” in the First Amendment was to give them freedom to take on political tyranny wherever it was found without fear of reprisals no matter who was in office.

News today is all about being on the left side of the political spectrum. Here’s some good news: Most Americans aren’t buying it. Consider Newsweek magazine:

In the last ten years, Newsweek lost 2.5 million readers, and its newsstand sales are hardly worth mentioning. . . .

If you want to understand why Newsweek put a badly photoshopped picture of Obama with a gay halo on its cover or features Romney doing a number from The Book of Mormon, you need only look at those numbers. Fifteen years ago desperate tactics like that were for alt[ernative] weeklies like The Village Voice, but Time and Newsweek are the new Village Voice.

There is no news business anymore, just media trolls looking for a traffic handout, feeding off manufactured controversies that they create and then report on. Magazines and sites struggling to stay alive while preaching to a narrow audience which likes essays by leftist cranks and mocking pictures of conservatives.

It was the Drudge Report that reported in 1998 that Newsweek had suppressed a story on Bill Clinton and a then unnamed intern. Today, Drudge dominants all news sources. Nielsen reports that those who frequent “the Drudge Report page were most likely to have a bachelor’s degree; more than double the percentage of all active college grad Internet users news site.” Drudge gets about 3,000,000 hits a day. In contrast, Newsweek was sold for one dollar in 2010.

With voter fraud, news manipulation, ownership of the public schools by the government, colleges and universities dominated by Leftists, Marxists, and moral rot, a film industry that rarely has anything good to say about conservatives, religion, and traditional moral values, gobs of our tax dollars being funneled to liberal special interest groups, and on and on, even so, conservatives are winning. Let’s not give up hope.

  1. Of course, I believe the mandate is a violation of the Constitution in general to force any employer to pay for other people’s stuff. []
