Liberals Use Christian Lackey Jim Wallis to Support Obama-Style Socialism

Jim Wallis is being called on by liberals to make the case for biblical socialism. Liberals despise or reimage the Bible’s views on abortion and homosexuality, but they search high and (mostly) low for anyone who will claim that the Bible supports wealth redistribution.

Wallis plans to “give out copies of The Poverty and Justice Bible, which has all 2,000 verses about the poor highlighted in orange, to each Member of Congress and their staff during the shutdown. We want the politicians who assault each other and the nation with their words every day to hear what we Christians call the Word of God,” Wallis says, “just across the street from their verbal battles.”

Neither the Old Testament not the New Testament supports what Wallis is selling at a salary of $197,000 per year: “You shall do no injustice in judgment; you shall not be partial to the poor nor defer to the great, but you are to judge your neighbor fairly´ (Lev. 19:15).

It’s no different in the New Testament as Dr. Gary North points out:

“The Social Gospel defends this system of compulsory wealth-redistribution in the name of Jesus. It teaches that Jesus implicitly favored economic aid to the poor in the form of government policies that can be enforced only by the threat of systematic violence.

“No New Testament account of Jesus offers evidence that He recommended such a view of Christian civil government.”

Not one of the 2000 verses Wallis highlights supports socialism or wealth redistribution.

You can’t have socialism when there is a commandment that states, “You shall not steal” (Ex. 20:15). Socialists would like the commandment to read, “You shall not steal, except by majority vote.”

Socialists believe that their economic worldview make’s the world more equal. In most cases it does. Nearly everybody becomes equally poor.

Some Christians will point to passages in the book of Acts as biblical evidence that socialism is God’s economic policy (Acts 2:44–45 and 4:32–37). No government was involved. There’s no demand from the elders that people sell their property to help those in need. The land was there’s to keep or sell freely: “While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own?,” Peter asked. “And after it was sold, was it not under your control?” (5:4).

We need to keep in mind the historical context of the land sale. Jesus had told His disciples that Jerusalem was going to be destroyed and “trampled underfoot by the Gentiles” (Luke 21:24) within a generation (Matt. 24:34; Luke 21:32). Selling their land was the smart economic thing to do since it would be nearly worthless within a few years.

Jim Wallis is a DC insider who’s been pushing socialism in the name of Christianity for more than 30 years. Dr. Gary North comments:

“Wallis is a part-time instructor at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. . . Harper published his book [God’s Politics] – one of the major mainstream media publishers. It is owned by media mogul Rupert Murdoch. Jim Wallis is in fact an Establishment insider who is playing the role of a prophetic outsider. He is to ‘prophetic Christianity’ what Jimmy Carter was to ‘prophetic politics.’”

The generally biblically ignorant American voter and media pundits will be duped by the claim that the Bible supports socialism. Dr. North “has published over 8,500 pages of verse-by-verse commentaries on the economics of the Bible,” that includes the 2000 verses Wallis claims support socialism.

When liberals need a stooge to support their freedom-denying, they know where to go.
