Liberal Kucinich Loses and Carbonite Stock Falls

Some great news out of Ohio — and it’s not about Mitt Romney. As we’re beginning to see, the 2012 election is more than about the presidency. Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich (D-Ohio), two-time Democrat presidential candidate, leftist, and Marxist suffered a primary defeat in yesterday’s election. A newly drawn congressional map did him in.

In addition to a new voter map, lower Democrat voter turnout and a challenge from former ally and fellow-Democrat Rep. Marcy contributed to the congressman’s defeat.

Here’s the best news. Liberal commentators Chris Matthews, Rachel Maddow, Al Sharpton, and Ed Schultz are upset. Here’s why: They’re afraid that Kucinich will replace one of them.

Some other Democrat mainstays won’t be with us in 2013. For example, Rep. Barney Frank, Democrat from Massachusetts, will not be running again. There is great opportunity for conservatives to step in and take these seats, although Frank’s seat may be difficult, given that it’s Massachusetts. There always seems to be a Kennedy waiting in the wings.

Although not a political race, the fallout over Rush Limbaugh’s comments about the contraception testimony of Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke continues to make headlines. A number of big-name companies have stopped advertising because of all the negative publicity. One of them is the computer backup company Carbonite.

Carbonite CEO David Friend withdrew his company’s advertising after offering a statement, a portion of which follows:

Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show. We hope that our action, along with the other advertisers who have already withdrawn their ads, will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse.

Now we learn that Carbonite (NASDAQ:CARB) stock had a precipitous fall of nearly 12 percent yesterday. It was one of the biggest decliners on NASDAQ on March 6th.

Here’s a story that has some interesting implications. While President Obama got the most votes in the Oklahoma Democrat primary, he failed to win in 15 counties to other Democrats, including anti-abortion activist and Operation Rescue founder Randall Terry. Surprisingly, Terry got 18 percent of the vote.

One last story. The conservative legal group Judicial Watch is suing the U.S. Air Force to gain access to first lady Michelle Obama’s travel records from a 2010 vacation to Spain — including cost estimates and passenger manifests.

I know nothing will come of it, but it’s fun to think about what could be.
