John Lennon’s Bloody Glasses but Not Bloody Babies

Yoko Ono has joined the gun control debate by posting a picture of John Lennon’s bloody glasses on the internet.

In 1980, John Lennon, of the iconic British band The Beatles, was murdered:

“At around 10:50 pm on 8 December 1980, as Lennon and Ono returned to their New York apartment in The Dakota, Mark David Chapman shot Lennon in the back four times at the entrance to the building. Lennon was taken to the emergency room of nearby Roosevelt Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival at 11:07 pm. Earlier that evening, Lennon had autographed a copy of Double Fantasy for Chapman.”

The gun didn’t kill Lennon. Mark David Chapman did.

The number of gun deaths in the United States is tragic. In fact, the number of murderers in America is tragic no matter what was used to kill the victims.

George Harrison, also a founding member of The Beatles, was stabbed in the chest with a large knife by an intruder. He was treated for a collapsed lung and various minor stab wounds. The wounds were not life-threatening.

Harry Potter actor Robert Knox was stabbed to death. In the late 1980s, a young actress named Rebecca Lucile Schaeffer was stabbed to death by Robert John Bardo.

All of these are tragedies.

But there is a larger tragedy that does not get much attention. In fact, when the bloody deaths are shown in photographs, often they are censored. Since 1973 when abortion was legalized in the United States by a 7-2 decision of the Supreme Court more than 60 million babies have been killed.

It’s legal to kill an innocent baby in the womb; it’s not legal to kill people outside their homes.

While showing John Lennon’s bloody glasses is great publicity for the anti-gun crowd, why doesn’t Yoko Ono join the anti-abortion movement?

While Lennon’s bloody glasses will mostly go viral, images of aborted babies are often censored:

  • Facebook has begun censoring pro-life images that depict the brutal aftermath of abortion. Yet, in a shocking display of a double-standard, it allows pro-abortion groups to post do-it-yourself instructions to kill a child in the womb.
  • Colleges have resisted allowing pro-life displays that show the after effects of abortion.
  • College students often deface pro-life displays showing what an abortion looks like.
  • Officials at Allegheny College in Pennsylvania refuse to run an advertising supplement on abortion in the student newspaper, “The Campus.” The 12-page advertising supplement “We Know Better Now,” sponsored by Human Life Alliance, provides detailed information on pregnancy and the impact of abortions on student’s lives.
  • In June 2012, Priests for Life Youth Outreach Director Bryan Kemper and pro-life advocates participating in a rally against the Obama HHS mandate were silenced by local police, who told them they couldn’t hold their pro-life signs.
  • It often takes legal action to force colleges to permit the free distribution of information about abortion.

Dianne Feinstein described the bloody scene when she discovered the murdered body of Harvey Milk. She told how she put her finger in a bullet hole to find a pulse. These were newsworthy descriptions. Why don’t the media offer similar graphic depictions of the abortion industry?
