President Obama needs to stick to being the President and stay out of everybody else’s business. As a law professor, he surely knows his limited powers as specified in the Constitution, although his recent comments on judicial review make me wonder. He is not the nation’s policeman.

Remember in 2009 when Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. was arrested at his Cambridge, Massachusetts home by a local police officer responding to a 9-1-1 caller’s report of men breaking and entering the residence? President Obama criticized the arrest and the response by the police. He made his comments without knowing all the facts. It was a “rush to judgment.”

He did the same thing with the Trayvon Martin shooting. He spoke without knowing all the facts. As we’re beginning to find out, the media purposely misled people by selectively editing the 9-1-1 call George Zimmerman made and claimed the video showing him handcuffed did not confirm that he had injuries to his nose and the back of his head. We now know that Zimmerman was injured. But the damage has been done.

If President wanted to say something, he should have told Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to stay home, wait until all the evidence is in, and pray and work for a peaceful outcome. He didn’t, and now Sanford, Florida, is a racial powder keg, as are other cities.

His latest butting in was comments he made about Augusta National Golf Club and its all-male membership. Being a private club, it can restrict its membership. “It is obviously up to the club to decide, but his personal opinion is that women should be admitted to the club,” President Obama’s Press Secretary Jay Carney told a reporter who asked about the controversy.

This dispute has been going on since 2002 when Martha Burk, Chairperson of the National Council of Women’s Organizations, “sent letters to the CEOs of major corporations, including IBM, Coca Cola, General Motors and Citigroup, claiming to ‘collectively represent over seven million women nationwide’ urging them to ‘suspend sponsorship of the Masters Golf Tournament in 2003 if the Augusta National Golf Club continues to discriminate against women by excluding them from membership.’”

Jay Carney, hoping to pick up more female voters in November, said President Obama “believes Augusta should admit women. We’re kinda long past the time when women should be excluded from anything.” Anything?

Women can play golf at Augusta National, they just can’t become members. How is this different from the all-male NBA and the all-female WNBA or the PGA and the LPGA? There’s women’s gymnastics, weightlifting, swimming, tennis, and track and field their all-male counterparts.

Women are free to start their own all-female-membership golf club. If they did, I suspect that men would not try to crash their private club.
