Is It Time to Abandon the US Military as a Career Choice?

You’ve heard the song “Mama, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys.” With what’s going on in our military, we might need to sing a new song:

“Mama, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Soldiers.”

First, our government is sending soldiers to fight wars that are unwinnable. During World War II, there were identified national enemies that had attacked us. This is no longer the case. What we have today are nations that we give our tax dollars to support, and they end up harboring terrorists. It’s insane!

Second, there’s no discernible long-term exit strategy in all the conflicts we’ve been involved in since the first Gulf War. How do we get out once we get in? No one knows.

Third, people we train to take back their country end up blowing up and shooting the soldiers that were sent to protect and train them. It’s happening almost daily.

Fourth, we’re fighting wars that aren’t any of our business. We’re considered to be invaders. There is no doubt that Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan are messed up. If the people aren’t willing to die for the cause of freedom in their own nation, then why should we send our best and brightest young people to die for them?

Fifth, homosexuality is a moral aversion that has been embraced by the military. Consider the following:

“Col. Ron Crews (USA-Ret.) served as an Army chaplain for 28 years and now serves as a spokesman for the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty. When asked by The Washington Times to write an op-ed on the consequences of the repeal of ‘don’t ask, don’t tell,’ he was quick to point out that ‘toleration does not cut both ways.’

“‘The Department of Defense is continually bringing forth homosexual soldiers and military personnel to do press conferences and talk about how wonderful it is,’ Col. Crews notes. ‘And then they allow military personnel to march in a gay pride parade in San Diego. But yet those who hold biblical values are silenced.’”

In addition, same-sex sailors are able to choose their bunk mates. The military is not a social experiment for sexual behavior.

Sixth, there’s a report that the Department of Defense is holding up absentee military ballots. In effect, the Department of Defense has gotten political.

“Requests from military voters for absentee ballots have dropped significantly since 2008, according to newly released statistics, prompting claims that the Department of Defense is dragging its feet in enacting a law meant to boost military voting.”

“The drop in the battleground states of Virginia and Ohio is among the most pronounced. According to statistics released Monday by The Military Voter Protection Project, the number of absentee ballot requests by both military members and other overseas voters in the two states has dropped 70 percent since 2008.”

A drop in military sign ups might bring those running the Pentagon to their senses, although I doubt it.

If you are in the military or you know someone who is, here’s the link to the Federal Voting Assistance Program to secure an absentee ballot.
