The Senate race in Virginia between Tim Kaine and George Allen is getting interesting. Democrat Senate candidate Tim Kaine said that he’s open to having a “minimum tax level for everyone.” This is an admission that Mitt Romney’s statement that 47 percent of wage earners don’t pay any federal income tax is true.

If we’re going to have an income tax, then I believe that everybody should pay the same income tax percentage. Why should it be otherwise?

But since Kaine’s a Democrat, he can say that he’s open to having a “minimum tax level for everyone” without it ever having a chance to pass if the Democrats stay in power. His appeal, then, is to conservative voters who he hopes will see that his right of Obama. Romney should pick up on Kaine’s proposal and appeal to the conservative base that he has not won over yet.

I would accept Kaine’s proposal and add four more:

First, tax day would be moved to the first Tuesday in November. April 15^th would no longer be tax day. The first Tuesday in November is the day we vote in national and state elections.

Second, there would no longer be any withholding tax. Instead of your employer taking money out of your pay check each pay period, you would be responsible for paying the tax directly. But you wouldn’t pay that tax until the first Tuesday in November when you vote.

Third, everybody would have to pay both parts of the FICA tax, that is, the Social Security tax. Self-employed people know all about this. While salaried employees pay nearly 7 percent in Social Security taxes, the employer pays an equal amount. Self-employed people pay the full amount. On a yearly salary of $50,000 it would be around $7,000.

Fourth, in order to vote, you would have to write a check for your federal, state, and local taxes. You would also have to pay the full amount in Social Security taxes all in one day. This way, everybody would know how much they are paying in taxes.

Right now, personal income tax forms must be mailed by April 15 but we vote in November. Dr. Gary North comments:

Before they vote in November, taxpayers have almost seven months to forget about tax misery day the previous April, and their next form-filing day will not come for almost six months. Out of sight, out of mind. I say, let every citizen recall his previous day’s tax filing and check-writing experience when he steps into the polling booth to cast his vote. Let democracy speak!”

The taxing system we have in this country is a political tool to keep one party in power — the Democrats!
