Ear Wax Eating Democrat Joe Garcia says “Communism Works”

There are some things you can’t make up.

“Democratic Florida Rep. Joe Garcia — fresh off being caught eating his own earwax on camera — was caught red-handed (or is it yellow-fingered?) in another gaffe this week, claiming that low crime rates in border cities with lots of federal immigration workers is proof that ‘Communism works.’”

Garcia claimed that he was only poking fun at Republicans for the way they vote on various issues. There’s no doubt that the Republicans have their own economic policy problems, but the Democrats are far worse. How is it possible for a Cuban American to be a Democrat? Why aren’t Cuban Americans getting behind the tea Party? The economic policies of the Democrats are creeping Castro-ism.

While my wife and I were in Houston over the weekend, we had the TV on. I’m not a regular watcher of ESPN, but it happened to be on. It was the story about Felix Sabates: “Felix Sabates’ Story American Made.”

In time, the Sabates family saw the writing on the wall when Communism began to take hold. There was fear that the children would be sent to Communist indoctrination centers. To save their son, Felix was surreptitiously sent to the United States.

Sabates describes what happened to his family and their businesses:

“‘They had a jewelry store, they had optical stores, they had a service station, they had a car dealership, they had insurance and they had appliance stores. My dad ran the business, but he also taught school at night,’ Sabates recalls, adding that all of the children and grandchildren were expected to pitch in and learned their sales skills from working shoulder to shoulder with Dr. Sabates. ‘My father always said, “Tu Palabra.” That means “your word is your bond.” He did everything on a handshake.’

“Initially, the family joined with most in the Camaguey province and supported Castro’s revolution when it began in 1953. At one point they even allowed revolutionaries to spend the night on the family property just outside the city. But once Castro was in control, he quickly revealed his socialist vision for Cuba and then went to work forcing that vision on its people. That included stripping those citizens of their individual wealth.

“‘They started taking the businesses one by one,’ says Sylvia Sabates, Felix’s sister and third oldest of the seven children. ‘One day, they came into the drug store and they said, “OK, this is gonna belong to the government, and if you want to stay here, you can work for the government now.”’

“They also seized the schools and churches. Sylvia recalls with great detail sitting in class when the Mother Superior walked in, visibly distressed, and whispered to the nun conducting the class. They turned to the little girls and told them that school was being taken over, to stuff whatever Christian symbols they could into their pockets and follow them out the door.”

Sabates is shown a film of Cuba. There is sadness in his eyes as he sees recent video of where the family businesses used to be. The streets are torn up and the shop buildings are vacant.

You must read the entire story. Tell this story to your children. Ask them questions. Make sure the understand. We’re head in the same direction.

Rep. Garcia certainly needs to read it. Every American who believes that the government can fix what’s broken needs to read it.

No, Rep. Garcia, Communism does not work.
